MS-21C
Dra-C
Full Scratchbuilt -
Scale 1/220 - Resin
Realization
of the model: I started this model as a joke and to test a new material
one friend gived me to try sculpting and trying also my ability
to make a 1/220 scale model starting from zero, also because I'm
passionated with this scale models and I also have a lot of this
kind. The subject is not beeing produced in this scale but only
in 1/100 actually beeing distribuited by japanese B-CLUB.
To make may work more easy I started by a bust of a 1/220 Zaku F2,
that I modified to fit the new design. The head is the first part
I sculpted using the bust as guide for the size proportions, this
because no blueprints of the model exist, only some technical designs
in perspective view and I had to try viewing the pieces in the same
way of the design to view if correct. The size of the model isn't
really know (almost the single sections) so I tried to make it look
good. In the animation series this MS shows only few seconds and
so many particulars are not show well.
Some pieces as the to Propellant tanks (they are in replacement
of the legs) and also the two sphere on the shoulders I realized
only one because symmetrical. To make the sphere I started by a
block of the material pinned in the center and turned on a minicraft
lathe. In a second stage I milled the directional trusters openings.
All the work of cutting and sculpting has been done with a cutter,
the small chisels by Hasegawa Tritools series and sandpaper, some
times I used pieces of plasticard to make details.
The shield is the piece I liked more to create, I started fixing
a piece of plasticard bigger than the shield size on the side of
a spraycan with masking tape on the borders so it was curved. After
I cutted the right figure of the shield I glued it (with liquid
glue) on the other piece of plasticard at 90° with the spraycan
base and fixed it with some pieces of tape. After Half an hour I
taked of the tape and I cutted away the excess of material on the
shield that I detailed on the inside with various parts (looking
at the mechanical designs) and on the outer side with the Zeon emblem
(cloned by a candy with silicone and resin).
When
I finished all the parts of the model I noted that some of them
where difficult to recast so I sectioned them and made some joints
to make them more easy to assembly. I made this work for the bust
and the shoulders. So I finished the model and started to recast
it to make my own model and the master to send at the friend that
starts production and selling it by web on his webshop. This model
taked part at the EUROMA model contest earning the GOLD Prize for
the SCI-FI Master Category at it's first trip outside.
