The knifes are a very important tools for making models.
You use them almost 50% of your modeling time so it's better to not
save money on this item. You may know how to use them and pull the blade
towards you, always away or sideways. Have them always clean and consider
buying an OLFA cutting matt that preserves the blades life. When you
buy it search one that has a good grip for your hands. The best knifes
are those for paper works, the blade is very sharp but has a short life.
The cost of this blades isn't too high. Let see what I use.
(ATTENTION !! If you are Under 16 years ask to
an adult to help you because some tools are very dangerous !!)
This
is a normal retracting fractionable blade good for the first works.
The better one is with the blade you can block. The only eak point
is that the blade is too fragile because of it's possibility to
take off one piece every time the point is damaged. I now use it
as blade for bad works. You can buy it almost everywhere.
This
is a pen handle knife and I think it's a good one even if the blades
didn't act well too much. The better blades you can buy are from
X-Acto. You can buy this kind of knife on Naval models shop or graphic
one's.
This
is a graphic pen knife , and it's very good for small- medium works
and it has very good blades . The one you see on photo is from Tamiya.
This
is a pen knife for papergraphic workers and the baldes are very
sharpenned but they have short life. The best for opening or adjusting
holes trough plastic parts.
This
is a bistoury and I use it only for cutting away the unused part
of decals. Very Sharp , be careful it's dangerous. You can buy on
pharmacy.
This
is a blade set with various sizes and shapes of blades and three sizes
of grips. The prize is very convenient even if the blades quality
isn't so good. I found it on a hobbytools shop. The bigger grip is
good to use with a razorsaw blade, very useful for some kind of plastic
reworks
This
is a special compass by OLFA, on one side it has a blade so you can
make perfect circles with plasticard or other soft materials. On the
first times it's not so important to buy it.
