Rulers
Rulers
are a very important thing scrachbuilding or detailing models. The best
are alluminium or iron ones. Here you see some kinds I use personally.
Depending on your workstyle you may need one or another or some other
not listed here, it's your choice what kind of ruler to have. Let us see
some of them.
| This
is a simple ruler that I use to design and cut plasticard, decals,
masking tape and other; it's made of alluminium and is resistent to
blades and paints (for this you may use solvent to clean). The scale
is printed on the two long borders, and it steps by 0,5 mm, very usefull
on little scales. |
 |
| This
is a squad and I found it into a Japanese modelshop, I payd it low
price and it's very little ( as you see on the rulers). I like it
because I don't have too much space on my desk and a bigger sqaud
could be difficult to move around. The first work is to help me make
90 degrees angles between plasticard pieces. |
 |
| These
are two scale rulers made to make right misures between real scale
and the model one. Here you see the 1/48 - 1/35 - 1/24 - 1/12 scales.
They are also easy to curve so you can also use to help scribing some
lines on your models. |
 |
| This
is a little caliper and it's long only 12cm, I found also this into
a Japanese model shop. It's a little one and it's a very fine measuring
tool. It's not so important on the first times but if you make advanced
scratchbuilding you may find it useful for a lot of things. I may
suggest it only to medium skilled builders. |
 |
| A
two sided needle compass is good to duplicate measurements. On the
first times I used also to make round disks with plasticard. |
 |
| This
is a DYMO tape, it's rigid and good to use as guide to scribe panel
lines on your model's suface. Very low price and of good use. If cutted
well it may replace some rising panels. You may only leave it one
day the piece under one heavy flat suface to lose the curving. |
 |
| This
a graphic tool and it's good to copy some difficult shapes and scribe
or cut on other surfaces. I used it few times but when I had to make
10-15 equal shapes on some masking tape I foud it very usefull. |
 |
| This
is a mask to make various size circles. You can use it with a scriber
to make round panels or to cut disks. Masking other holes you can
use also as a mask to paint circles. |
